Watering the Tulips

“For the children of Israel shall abide many days without king or prince, without sacrifice or sacred pillar, without ephod or teraphim.  Afterward the children of Israel shall return and seek the Lord their God and David their king.  They shall fear the Lord and His goodness in the latter days” (Hosea 3:4, 5).
Have you ever considered how miraculous it is that Israel is a nation today?  Since Israel has been in their land since most of us were born, we oftentimes forget their history.  In AD 70, Rome destroyed Jerusalem and scattered the Jewish nation around the globe.  For almost 1900 years, the descendants of Abraham had no identity.  They were mingled among every nation under the sun.  They had no land.  They had disappeared as a nation.  Seemingly, they were a long forgotten memory.  However, on May 14, 1948, Israel regained independence and became a nation that was recognized by the United Nations.  The fact that they are on their land is nothing more than the fulfilling of God’s promise and the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy.
For centuries, theologians allowed their view of prophecy to be skewed by the fact that Israel was seemingly gone.  They wondered how in the world the promises of the Scripture could literally be fulfilled in a people that had disappeared from the face of the planet?  People began to say God was finished with the nation of Israel.  Many began to question the promises of God’s Word that had been made to Israel.  Some began to embrace prophetic positions that supported such a view.  However, God proved His power when He supernaturally began to gather His chosen earthly people back into their land over 60 years ago.
Jesus said, “And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations.  And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled” (Luke 21:24).  It did not catch the Lord off guard when Israel was scattered around the globe.  It was expected.  The very God who declared “the end from the beginning” saw His plan taking shape.  He had purposed that they would be scattered.  He had also purposed that this would be temporary.  Today, we see the times of the Gentiles drawing to a close.  The return of the Lord is soon.
Child of God, take comfort in seeing God’s sovereignty as He works through the nation of Israel.  His plans for them have never been thwarted.  He is accomplishing His will in them even today.  The same is true with us.  He will fulfill every promise that He has ever given us in His Holy Word.  He cannot lie!  Thank Him today for encouragement in his dealings with Israel.
